We like to think of our gardens as elemental art, so our focus is to design and build landscapes that reflect the stunning natural environment that we have here in the front range. That means using local materials and native plants were possible to make sure your landscape has something to show year-round, year after year.

Though I didn’t know it, the beginnings of Deep Moss started to take root while I was hiking through the cloud forests of Hawai’i. I found myself in beds of sphagnum moss, over three feet deep. I spent the afternoon hiking and laying in the deep beds of moss. Never before had I felt this distinct feeling of Earth. As time passed, that feeling and memory stuck with me. Only after visiting the temples and gardens of Osaka and Kyoto, did that feeling become distilled into a tangible concept. After my return home to Boulder, I got to work combining my 15 plus years of xeric and native landscaping experience with the design aesthetics of Japan. The gardens that resulted are an aesthetic and energetic culmination of the steep and rugged Rocky Mountains and the tranquil, timeless quality of Japan.
